The deep walkers are creatures dwelling in the darkness below the
caverns of Deep Incanus. Descriptions of these creatures indicate they
are black skinned with eyes that glow a baleful red. They are swathed
in tatters of black, almost as it they were mummified but given tales,
they are truly alive.
Deep walkers are said to be insubstantial as the darkness itself
and wield the cold chill of the darkness as a weapon.
Deep walkers apparently interfered with Neridia during the First
Expansion War bringing the Crag Trolls, the Ryndarth Orcs, and their
goblin minions down into their caverns. The reasons for this and
whether they have any current dealings are unknown.
The dwarves of Deep Incanus battled these creatures at times and
reported that, as expected, they are harmed by light spells.
Nothing is known of the deep walker society if there even is one.
Small groups and individuals are all that are ever encountered. It is
not clear if there are leaders among them or if they even have a
language since they are always absolutely silent. When dwarves have
been taken by the deep walkers, they never escape and when they
resurrect they never have memory of their death.
Some say that on occasion when a deep walker is killed, the shadows
that make up its body coalesce into an essence which is usable in
formal magics.
